The Forts Walk links Magnetic Island’s dry tropical landscape with WWII history and wide coastal views.
Walk to the fortifications
Tourism and Events Queensland describes The Forts Walk (opens in a new tab) as a four-kilometre return walk from Forts Junction, with views, koala habitat and the remains of coastal defences. Set out early for cooler conditions and read the signs at the trailhead.
Respect the island’s stories
Queensland Parks notes that the Wulgurukaba people work with QPWS to care for country, and that the site’s fort ruins are protected heritage. Read the park’s nature, culture and history information (opens in a new tab) before visiting to better understand the place.
Check conditions
Before travelling to Forts Junction, check current Magnetic Island park alerts (opens in a new tab) for access changes and follow any park advice.
